Course Specifics

International GCSE Physics Edexcel (9-1) (4PH1)

Students are entered for Paper 1 and Paper 2.

Paper 1 is 2 hours long and is marked out of 110. Paper 2 is 1 hour 15 minutes long and is marked out of 70. Both examination papers contain a mixture of different question styles, including multiple-choice questions, short-answer questions, calculations, and extended open-response questions.

Paper 1 (4PH1/1P) and (4SD0/1P) assesses all content, except content marked in bold and the letter ‘P’ in the syllabus. Paper 2 (4PH1/2P) assesses all content, including content marked in bold and the letter ‘P’.

Paper 1 is worth 61.1% and Paper 2 is worth 38.9% of the IGCSE.

The content is split into eight teaching topics 1-8:

• Topic 3: Waves
• Topic 4: Energy resources and transfers
• Topic 5: Solids, liquids, and gases
• Topic 6: Magnetism and electromagnetism
• Topic 7: Radioactivity and particles
• Topic 8: Astrophysics
